SAU Executive Member and our representative on the European Council of Artists, Chris Biddlecombe, has successfully concluded negotiations on better working arrangements for Artists Resale Rights.
The European Council of Artists issued this announcement:
"The signing of the "Key Principles and Recommendations on the management of the Author Resale Right" took place in Brussels on February 17th.
Enclosed, you find a press release (in English and French) that was sent out to UK and French press regarding the signing ceremony.
The artist's resale right is almost 100 years old and is recognized under international copyright law. It exists in over 70 countries around the world, including all members of The European Union (EU).
The document that was signed in Brussels on February 17th regards the management of these rights, done after important negotiations between representatives for visual artists, collective management societies, European authors' societies for visual art and representatives for the visual art market: auction houses, art dealers and galleries.
ECA's representative in the group was ECA's Executive Committee member, Chris Biddlecombe (SAU, The Scottish Artists' Union).
It is important to spread information about resale rights, since these rights seem not to be as well known, as they should be and about this good news of a European agreement on how to best manage these rights.
Sincerely, on behalf of ECA"
