As we discussed at last years AGM at DCA in Dundee, despite the continued successes of SAU to raise the profile and campaign for better pay and working conditions for Visual Artists in Scotland, it has become apparent that the biggest issue for SAU has been the limitations of SAU itself; due to lack of staffing and the increase in size of the membership, which is now over 1450 professional artists living and working in Scotland. The increase in membership is a good thing obviously, but it also means that the pressures on the executive as a voluntary committee are not sustainable.

For this reason we realized that we needed to undertake an Organisational Review in order to make the best decisions about the development of SAU on behalf of the organisation and the membership. We commissioned Jennifer Hunter of Hack Aye to 'HACK SAU' and she presented her findings at this year's AGM at Southblock, Glasgow, in the form of a powerpoint outlining the issues and her plan for a way forward for the organisation. She has kindly created a version that we can display here on the website, as a downloadable PDF.

If you have any questions or queries about these recommendations please contact us at; or come along to our next Executive meeting which will be held at 7pm on 17th November at Stills Gallery, 23 Cockburn Street Edinburgh EH1 1BP. All SAU members welcome. We can reimburse (reasonable) travel costs.

(Please let us know if you are coming along, thanks.)
