Creative Scotland- November 2009

05-11-2009

October saw several stages toward the advent of Creative Scotland unfold. For the second time this year the Scottish Artists Union offers its summary of events and provides visual and applied artists with essential information on what lies ahead.

The Public Services Reform Bill, including measures that will bring Creative Scotland into being, will be debated at Stage 1 of its consideration in the Scottish Parliament on November 16th. We encourage our members to write to their MSP ahead of the debate and ask them where they stand on Creative Scotland, reminding them that the new agency must acknowledge the unique and crucial contribution of visual and applied artists to Scottish culture and keep their support an utmost priority.

A detailed description of the specific actions taken and events attended by the Scottish Artists Union's Executive Committee during the 2008/09 session.

The list is posted here in order to aid non-members' understanding of the SAU's nature as a lobbying organisation, give existing members a sense of the scope of work that is done on their behalf, and allow those who are considering putting themselves forward to serve on future Committees a taste of what's involved.

As ever further questions can be directed to us via the contact form on this website.

Creative Scotland- February 2009

28-03-2009

In the spirit of constructive dialogue on the future of Creative Scotland, and after a particularly hectic month, the Scottish Artists Union offers its summary of events and provides visual and applied artists with essential information on what lies ahead.

At a recent event for invited guests from the arts sector (link below), Culture Minister Mike Russell called upon those concerned about the direction of cultural policy to take grass-roots action and engage with their MSP on the issue. We encourage our members to write to or preferably attend the surgeries of their MSP and ask them where they stand on Creative Scotland.
